Pablo Llorens - In Memoriam

The IC Spain is greatly saddened to report the recent passing of Mr Pablo Llorens Reñaga, a true leader of international tennis, who left us at age 91, after suffering a long illness.  Pablo was a great gentleman both on and off the court and a great promoter of fair play.

He was President of the Spanish Tennis Federation from 1970 to 1984 and also served as ITF Vice President before the ITF named him as Honorary Life Vice President in 1997.  Pablo was also the first Spaniard to be admitted as member of the All England Club in 1979 and received the highest recognition in International Tennis in 2001, the Golden Achievement Award from the hands of the international Tennis Hall of Fame.

Among the achievements he was most proud of was the organization of the Tennis Masters in 1972 in the Palau Blaugrana where he had to overcome difficulties, like broadcasting the competition in colour, when this was not yet usual in Spain.  Pablo was also very supportive of the Olympic Games and worked closely with Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch, a great friend of his, as the sport of tennis returned to the Olympics.
