Robert Abdesselam Trophy 2017

The Club de Campo will organise the VI Robert Abdesselam Trophy in collaboration with the International Club of Spain and the Robert Abdeselam Foundation, from 23-25 June.

The VI Robert Abdesselam Trophy will bring together teams from IC Belgium, IC France and IC Spain; three nations of great significance to Bob. Following the tradition of extending an invitation to a fourth team, IC Great Britain will complete the line-up on this occasion. The competition is a doubles-only event, played in a round-robin format for players of the 50+, 55+ and 60+ age groups. Each tie consists of a men’s, a women’s, and a mixed doubles match.

The President of the Abdesselam Foundation, Jean Pierre Herve Gautier, will also be attending the event.

Robert Abdesselam’s legacy is an important one for the world of tennis. Son of an Algerian lawyer, he was a junior champion of France in 1937 and 1938 and university champion in 1939 before going on to feature on the French Davis Cup team. On a personal level, he participated a volunteer in the second World War and went on to have an international political career that led to him being acclaimed with the French Legion of Honour. He was a French delegate at the United Nations and a founder of NATO.
